The Ghost in the Shell universe expands with the announcement of Glitch Witch, a new manga serialization set to debut on Yanmaga Web on September 9. The work is by Masamune Shirow, the creator of the original, who is handling the script and character design, while the art is by Naoki Azuma, known for The Immortal Kamikaze Trooper. This new cyberpunk saga fits directly into the franchise's existing timeline, offering fans another chapter in the story.
The narrative is set on April 10, 2029, a pivotal moment when Motoko Kusanagi and Aramaki are about to establish Section 9. In this context, a series of incidents strikes the United States, attracting the attention of the FBI and artificial intelligence researchers. At the heart of the story is a clash between Project 2501, the 'Puppet Master' with whom Kusanagi merges at the end of the TV series, and a Solomon-class AI that holds the fate of humanity.
The series will be updated every other Wednesday, maintaining the philosophical and technological atmosphere that made the franchise famous. With the recent success of the anime TV series that recently concluded, Glitch Witch represents yet another effort to keep attention on the world created by Shirow, exploring new dynamics between technology and human identity.
