A survivor of childhood sexual abuse has filed a lawsuit against xAI, Elon Musk’s artificial intelligence company. The plaintiff, identified as Jane Doe to protect her identity, alleges that the Grok chatbot used photographs related to the abuse to generate new, illegal images depicting her.
The complaint, filed in a California federal district court, accuses the company of having ingested child sexual abuse material (CSAM) images into its datasets after they had been published. The plaintiff’s attorneys claim that xAI ignored standard industry methodologies for safeguarding such material, allowing AI-generated content to spread on the X platform.
This case is distinct from other recent lawsuits against xAI, which often accused Grok of undressing children in non-explicit photos. In this instance, the focus is on the use of existing abuse images to create new content, an aspect that is drawing attention from child protection authorities.
